About Zildjian Living history. Officially titled The Avedis Zildjian Company the company known worldwide as Zildjian first began manufacturing cymbals as early as 1618 in Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul Turkey). One of the longest-running musical instrument manufacturers in the world its founder the Armenian Avedis Zildjian initially constructed resonant metal sheets for the court of the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire.
