About Zildjian Living history. Officially titled The Avedis Zildjian Company the company known worldwide as Zildjian first began manufacturing cymbals as early as 1618 in Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul Turkey). One of the longest-running musical instrument manufacturers in the world its founder the Armenian Avedis Zildjian initially constructed resonant metal sheets for the court of the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire. The company was passed down from generation to generation – always refining and reinventing the cymbal as it went – and eventually in 1929 Avedis Zildjian III who was living in the USA formed Avedis Zildjian Co. with his brother and uncle in Quincy Massachusetts.
