New design from Yamaha Duet+ The Yamaha Duet+ YCL450M Bb clarinet employs innovative techniques to form a protective layer next to the air column. During the early stages of construction the upper joint body is drilled out slightly larger around the bore and tone-holes. Thermoplastic ABS resin is then injected into the bore to form an inner protective sleeve. Duet+ instrument are designed to preserve as many characteristics as traditional clarinets as possible while not impacting the natural appearance. All of the tone holes (except metal octave vents) are moulded at the same time as the bore. By reinforcing the tone holes with ABS resin vastly improves the life of the clarinet and even makes servicing the instrument easier than ever. One of the most vulnerable parts of a clarinet is the upper joint tenon as they can often expand. Because of this Yamaha has formed the tenon as an extension of the resin bore ensuring a smooth connection even under moist conditions.
