The Waldorf Quantum MK2 is the second iteration of the critically-acclaimed hybrid digital/analog polyphonic synthesizer packed with new features and enhancements.
The new 61 key Fatar keybed provides unparalleled expressivity providing fluid playability that emulates the feel and touch of an acoustic piano.
The sampling storage has also been increased to 59GB allowing you to create and import a wide variety of samples and sounds.
At the heart of the Quantum MK2 are three stereo digital oscillators which provide five synthesis algorithms each including a new Kernel synthesis engine.
Now with 16-voice polyphony the Quantum MK2 also features digital and analog filters designed to expand the tonal possibilities of the synth.
The hybrid design allows you to tap into new sonic territory with a new set of allocation modes for advanced control.
When creating the new firmware (3.0) Waldorf listened to the requests of users and professional musicians expanding its polyphonic granular sampling engine as well as the multi-sample engine.
The overall design has also been updated with a sleek naval blue finish.
The high-resolution touch display has also been adjusted to improve its viewing angle providing tactile control for the more advanced functions of the Quantum synthesis engine.
It retains all the functions and features the made the original Quantum so sought-after including in-depth visualization and deeper sound editing capabilities as well as useful tools such as a spectrum analyzer and oscilloscope for the processing stages.
Three digital oscillators with five synthesis algorithms
At its core, the Quantum MK2 features three digital oscillators with each oscillator providing five synthesis algorithms to choose from.
Building on the original design, the MK2 features new wavetable additions including speech synthesis and wavetable generation from audio samples for unparalleled sound design capabilities.
You can also browse classic synthesizer waveforms utilizing multiple waves to create massive sounds with little effort.
The granular sampler algorithm provides multi-sampling support as well as the traditional sampling mode.
Granular sampling is an intuitive way to create new sounds by chopping up tiny parts of audio samples to create small fragments which can then be synthesized to create new sounds.
The Resonator algorithm allows you to create new sounds by using an initial exciter signal (typically a short noise impulse) which goes through a bandpass filter bank where its resonating filters finally produce a ringing sine-like sound.
You can then utilize the various parameters to create new timbres and tones with a wide range of controls on hand to shape your sound.
A new addition algorithm collection is Kernel synthesis.
Kernel synthesis takes a modular approach to sound design utilizing up to six audio kernels which can be them be combined into a single oscillator.
Each kernel acts as an oscillator in its own right capable of creating a range of classic-style waveforms via wavetables through to samples and noise.
Each kernel can also modulate each other using a variety of sources including amplitude frequency phaser and ring modulation.
16 voices of polyphony with hybrid filtering
Improving on the original design, the Quantum MK2 doubles the polyphony of the original – now with 16-voices.
Based around the dual-filter architecture, the MK2 allows you to use any combination of digital dual multi-mode filters with eight analog and eight digital filters.
Blending between the analog/digital filters opens up a whole new world of sound sculpting capabilities.
You can easily control your filters and oscillators using the new set of allocation modes.
Each voice features two analog lowpass filters (12/24 dB) utilizing link modes or you can use two digital multi-mode filters for added versatility.
The flexible routing systems allow you to arrange your filters as well as individual oscillator routings for advanced modulation options.
Six LFOs in poly/global mode are also included perfect for creating powerful bass-driven tones.
The extensive modulation matrix features 40 slots in total and can be routed using via-controller assignments for intuitive control.
61-note Fatar TP8/SK keybed with aftertouch
Another new design aspect is the introduction of the 61-note Fatar TP8/SK polyphonic aftertouch keybed with weighted keys and dynamic bubble contact.
This high-end keybed provides unparalleled expressivity allowing for musical and gestural expression to showcase the myriad of modulation options that the Quantum synthesis engines provide.
Basing its design around a high-end acoustic keybed; the Fatar TP8/SK is customizable in multiple dimensions as well as for individual keys.
Upgraded sampling storage – now 59GB
More storage means more creative freedom and with the Quantum MK2, you’ve got bags of it!
A massive increase from a few GB to a whopping 59GB of sample storage.
Regarded for its advanced sampling capabilities, the original Quantum polysynth was championed by cinematic composers and sound designers for its unique tonality and powerful modulation options.
With the increased sample storage, the only limit is your imagination.
Expanded sound library and touchscreen display
Showcasing its vast sonic palette, the Quantum MK2 has expanded its sound library with a wide variety of presets from award-winning composers, artists, and sound designers.
Incorporating presets from legendary designers such as Richard Devine, Howard Scarr, Matt Johnson, Kevin Shroeder, Kurt Ader, and many more; the MK2 is truly a sound designer’s dream.
Waldorf Music is always looking to update and improve the Quantum’s firmware, utilizing the new Waldorf Synthesis Platform that was created alongside the Iridium firmware.
The design of the MK2 has been overhauled with an upgraded mechanical design with a classic naval blue finish.
The high-resolution touchscreen display has been mounted at an ergonomic position to provide a wider viewing angle and tactile control for the more advanced features of the synthesis engine.
