The Waldorf Iridium takes the same superior sound engine technology used in the Quantum and houses it in a compact desktop synth. The powerful engine offers infinite possibilities in sound production, with a range of controls and effects for endless sound variations. It features eight voices with speech and spectrum functionality, allowing for simultaneous play of several notes and adding depth and character to your sound. The core of the Iridium is its 3 digital oscillators, which can run independently using 1 of 4 synthesis algorithms. The first algorithm is wavetable synthesis, allowing for sweeping through wavetables to create sound. The second is waveform mode, offering traditional subtractive waves.

The Iridium is designed for powerful and versatile sound design. With six envelopes and six low frequency oscillators, it can create powerful and hard-hitting sounds with just a few adjustments. The Modulation Matrix provides 40 slots for incorporating various sources such as envelopes and LFOs for precise control. The Komplex Modulator allows for the creation of additional envelopes or LFOs, expanding the sound design possibilities. There are also various filtering options, including filters modelled on famous synths like the Waldorf Nave Largo. The Dual Filter mode allows for independent or simultaneous control of each filter.

Despite its large and varied controls, the Iridium is designed for easy and intuitive sound creation. The logic-based layout features dedicated knobs for major controls, and a touchscreen display for easy navigation. The streamlined workflow and wide variety of connectivity make the Iridium suitable for sound design and live performances.

Features of the Waldorf Iridium include five different synth modes for each oscillator, over 100 factory sounds, 2GB user sample flash memory, a 3×3 silicon pad matrix with RGB backlights, an arpeggiator and step sequencer, 16-voice polyphony duo-timbral performance, compatibility with the Waldorf Quantum synth engine, and the ability to save up to 7000 patches. It also offers a variety of filter models, a dual filter section that can be controlled independently or together, a large color touch screen, the ability to draw Komplex Modulator curves with your finger, envelopes that show the current position of voices, comprehensive display modes for wavetables, VU meters to show voice usage and levels, and various analyzers to show the audio signal at different points.
