The Aerophone AE-20 is suitable for both experienced woodwind players and beginners. It features a reed-style mouthpiece that feels familiar to woodwind players and offers rapid response and natural vibrato control. The breath and bite sensors are highly sensitive and customizable, as is the fingering setup. The instrument has a seven-octave range and easy transposition options, making it versatile for playing along with any music.

The AE-20 incorporates Rolands SuperNATURAL sound engine, which delivers realistic acoustic sounds of various instruments, including saxophones, flute, trumpet, clarinet, and even world instruments like the shakuhachi or bagpipes. It also uses the ZEN-Core Synthesis System, allowing for classic analog synth sounds as well as modern digital voices. Each of the 260+ preset voices on the Aerophone has been optimized for wind-style dynamics and articulations.

The AE-20 is designed for live performances and can be plugged directly into amps or PA systems. It can also be used for private practice with headphones, and the battery provides around six hours of continuous use. The instrument has MIDI capabilities and can be connected to a computer to control software instruments.

Rolands Aerophone Lesson and Aerophone Pro Editor apps enhance the learning and customization of the instrument. Aerophone Lesson offers interactive lessons and can be used with the Aerophones sound system. Aerophone Pro Editor allows for fine-tuning and layering of sounds.
