The Radial Workhorse SubMix is a 4 x 1 line mixer module that can be used with 500 series racks. It allows you to combine four audio signals into a single channel. The module features four 1/4 unbalanced input connectors and individual level controls for each input source. It also includes Radial’s innovative dual-gang AccuState circuit, which adjusts the input gain and sensitivity to achieve the best possible signal-to-noise level. This makes it perfect for summing multiple samplers, drum machines, keyboards, and other audio playback sources in the studio without introducing noise.

The SubMix has a variety of potential applications. One example is using it with keyboards. It allows you to mix keyboards and add them into your recording. You can even use two keyboards together in stereo by connecting the left and right outputs to separate inputs on two SubMix modules.
Another application of the SubMix is using it for auxiliary inputs. It provides a convenient way to introduce tape returns and stereo feeds into your 500 series rack. Simply connect the left and right outputs into the SubMix and adjust the levels using the front-panel controls.
The SubMix can also be used with effects. It allows you to combine multiple guitar effects pedals together and record them. Additionally, it can be used with line level devices and to record instruments.
Some notable features of the SubMix include its AccuState circuit for low noise at all levels, individual level controls for each input, compatibility with the Radial Workhorse 500 Series rack as well as other 500 Series racks, and the ability to simultaneously adjust the gain and sensitivity for maximum signal-to-noise.
The SubMix also includes an Omniport designed as a virtual-earth mix-buss input, a gold-plated 15-pin card edge with a double-sided design for improved mating, a military-spec circuit board with a full ground plane for optimal noise reduction, and full-size through-hole 100 percent discrete electronics for optimal signal transfer.
In terms of specifications, the SubMix has an op-amp audio circuit with AccuState gain control, a frequency response of 20Hz – 20kHz, 4 x 1/4 Jack input connectors, an Omniport expansion input for buss, a dynamic range of 97dB, total harmonic distortion of less than 0.005 percent, intermodulation distortion of less than 0.006 percent, phase deviation of less than 8 degrees at 20Hz, equivalent input noise of -103dBu, maximum input of +12dBu, maximum output of +16dBu, data compression of ±16V @ 31mA, dimensions of 228.60mm x 165.10mm x 50.80mm / 9 x 6.5 x 2, and a weight of 0.7kg / 1.5lbs.
