The Radial Workhorse PowerPre has various potential applications. In a basic preamplifier setup, it can be connected to a mic and the XLR output can be sent to the recording system. It offers single-dial control for easy and efficient recording.

The PowerPre can also be used as the front-end of a microphone channel, driving an EQ and a compressor to create the ultimate channel strip. Modules can be cascaded, such as the PowerPre into a Q3 Induction Coil EQ into a Komit Compressor-Limiter, with the final output sent to the recording device.

Additionally, the PowerPre is great for tracking instruments. When used in a Workhorse 500 Series rack system, you can connect your guitar or bass to the Omniport 1/4 input and begin recording quickly and easily.

The PowerPre features a high-performance microphone preamp designed for use with the Radial Workhorse 500 Series system. It utilizes 100% discrete components for optimal signal transfer and the vintage Hammond broadcast output transformer adds warmth and a smooth tone.

Other features include a front-mounted XLR for easy connectivity, a recessed 48V phantom power switch to prevent unwanted activation or deactivation, and a 10-segment LED meter for precise monitoring. The Vox control switch allows you to set the PowerPre to Breath, Punch, or Linear settings to customize the tonal character.

The PowerPre also includes a gentle high-pass filter to control low-end resonance, ultra-quiet low noise operation, and exceptional warmth. It is housed in a sturdy encased steel enclosure to reduce magnetic interference and features durable metal push switches rated at over 20,000 cycles.

The PowerPre’s features continue with a double-layer steel front panel for added rigidity, a dual potentiometer with steel casing and shaft for durability, and a heavy-duty glass-filled nylon XLR connector with ultra-heavy nickel-silver solder lugs.

Additional features include a mini slider switch to lift pin-1 ground on the front panel XLR to help eliminate hum and buzz caused by ground loops, a gold-plated 15-pin double-sided card edge design for improved mating connection, and a gold-sealed relay rated at over 50,000 cycles for auto-switching between XLR and 1/4 input.

The PowerPre also has a military-spec double-sided PCB with full ground plane for low noise performance. Its specifications include various circuit types, frequency response, input/output impedance, gain levels, dynamic range, THD+N, and more.

The PowerPre’s controls and connectivity options include a 10-segment LED meter for monitoring, a -15dB pad for handling ultra-hot signals, 180° polarity reverse for phase alignment, a 100Hz high-pass filter, fully adjustable gain control, and a 3-position Vox switch for tonal character adjustment. It also offers phantom power, mic and XLR inputs/outputs, and an Omniport instrument input for direct recording.
