The Central Station is designed to meet the needs of mixdown facilities that have multiple sets of monitors. Therefore, it features five stereo input ports – three analog and two digital. Analog inputs 1 and 2 have 1/4″ TRS balanced jacks, while analog input 3 accepts unbalanced RCA connectors. The S/PDIF digital inputs are handled by a coaxial cable jack and a Toslink optical port.
In terms of outputs, the Central Station has three analog outputs – Speaker Main and Cue, each using 1/4″ TRS balanced connectors. The speaker outputs are passive, while the Main and Cue outputs are active and impedance-balanced. This allows you to connect to powered or unpowered monitors, separate power amps, or any other configuration your studio requires.
The Central Station offers a purely passive signal path, resulting in transparent sonic quality. There are no amplifier stages, op amps, or active ICs involved in the main audio path, eliminating any coloration, noise, or distortion. This enables you to hear the true sound of your mix. To ensure minimal noise and maximum signal integrity, the Central Station uses sealed silver relays, preventing audio from passing through extraneous electronics.
Additionally, the Central Station features dual fast-acting 30-segment peak/hold LEDs for accurate metering. The front panel includes both dBu and dBfs scales, as well as a peak/hold clear switch and meter alignment switch for additional metering options.
Other features of the Central Station include the included CSR-1 remote control for easy monitor management at your desktop, S/PDIF coax or Toslink digital input, two balanced TRS jacks and two RCA inputs with trim control, D/A conversion up to 24-bit/192kHz, omnidirectional condenser microphone routed through CUE outputs when talkback is used, two headphone outputs, MUTE DIM INPUT select, CUE select, and OUTPUT select options.
