MoogerFooger Software MF-108S Cluster Flux
The MoogerFooger Software MF-108S Cluster Flux is a modern digital plug-in replica of the MF-108 hardware. This versatile processor is expertly designed to modulate between chorus, flanging, and vibrato effects, making it an essential tool for creative processing on a multitude of different sources, from vocals to drums, synthesizers, guitars, and more.

The MF-108S features a host of modular synth functions, including a dual-range Bucket Brigade Device (BBD) delay line optimized for short delay times and a multi-waveform Low-Frequency Oscillator (LFO) capable of modulating the delay line to produce a wide array of effects like Chorus, Flanging, and Vibrato. It is a direct descendant of the pioneering Moog modular synthesizers, engineered to process, modulate, and play with inputs from guitars, voices, and synthesizers to virtually any audio source imaginable.

The MF-108S plug-in enhances this classic Moogerfooger functionality by incorporating CV interconnectivity, stereo functionality, an extended feature set, the ability to run multiple instances, and presets, all tailored to the needs of contemporary digital creators. It retains the original design, allowing all parameters to be played, tweaked, automated, and modulated, resulting in dynamic and truly musical performances. The MF-108S captures not only the subtle swirling and intense flanging sounds of its predecessor but also the organic interaction of its parameters, delivering a uniquely musical playing experience.

The secret to creative sound design lies in the versatility of Cluster Flux. It is not limited to a specific input type and is designed to accommodate a variety of input sources, including guitar, vocals, drums, synthesizers, and more. Its unbiased input type presents a plethora of different effects and sounds that can be achieved using the combination of the Delay and LFO modules. It is the perfect studio tool for injecting modern, sterile productions with classic analog movement. You can expect to find classic flanging, chorus, and vibrato effects, as well as more experimental ramped pitch modulation and randomized flanging.

Unlock the classic “jet engine” flanger sound by modulating the input signal up and down. Adjust the Feedback, Rate, Rate Amount, and time parameters to create a gentle swooshing wave for electric guitar lead lines or synthesizer pads. With a few simple changes, you can take Cluster Flux from Flanging to Chorus in seconds. Blend the Mix amount to 50-50 to retain some of the dry signal and push the Feedback to positive values for a metallic, brittle edge. Think outside the norm and discover new sounds for your music by unlocking Random Flanging effects through rhythmic random LFO step modulation.

The MF-108S Cluster Flux features dedicated delay parameters to give you precise control over your sound. The TIME control sets the length of delay from the BBD delay line, and the RANGE switch offers two distinct delay time ranges. The FEEDBACK control adjusts the amount of delay output fed back into the delay input, allowing you to fine-tune the intensity of the comb filters’ frequency response peaks in Flange Mode.

The plug-in also features a versatile LFO section that allows users to create unique modulation effects with ease. The WAVEFORM control allows you to select from six different LFO waveforms, and the RATE control adjusts the frequency of the modulation. The AMOUNT control determines the overall intensity of the delay time modulation by the LFO, making it easy to fine-tune your sound.

Replicated in the digital world, the MF-108S Cluster Flux features the same CV connectivity found on the hardware counterpart. You can control parameters in classic modular synth style using a MIDI controller, expression pedal, or other CV sources from other MoogerFooger plug-ins. This allows you to add evolving dynamic modulation to your sound and trigger parameter adjustments with external sources to move with your music.

The Type setting on the Cluster Flux plays a crucial role in determining the delay feedback handling between the left and right stereo channels. Choose Echo for a standard stereo delay, where the left and right channels are separate and have identical delay times. Alternatively, select Ping-Pong to create a captivating effect where the delayed signal appears to bounce back and forth between the left and right channels.

The Tone setting influences the EQ filtering and grittiness of the delayed audio signal. The MF-108S replicates the tone of the original MF-108 with the Legacy setting, while the Modern setting offers a bright, crisp, full-bandwidth delay sound.

The MF-108S plugin allows you to shift phase and select which signal to phase invert for various stereo effects. You can also adjust the LFO Polarity setting to bend the delay time slower and faster or only faster, depending on your preference.

The plugin also offers comprehensive MIDI control, stereo functionality, CV connectivity, and a variety of presets to explore the sonic capabilities.

Operating system requirements for the MF-108S Cluster Flux plugin are Mac: macOS 10.13 or newer and Windows: Windows 10 or newer. The plugin is compatible with VST3, AudioUnits, Pro Tools AAX, and Intel processors.

Overall, the MoogerFooger Software MF-108S Cluster Flux is a powerful, versatile, and creative tool for sound design and modulation effects. It faithfully replicates the classic analog sounds of its hardware counterpart while offering modern features and functionality for contemporary digital creators.
