The 2020 version of the Mapex Saturn 22″ 4-piece Shell Pack incorporates features from Mapex’s outstanding Black Panther Design Lab, such as the newly-incorporated SONIClear bearing edges and the brand new air ventilation system. These additions can be compared to Saturn’s famous ring system and enhance the overall performance of the drum set.
The combination of maple and walnut woods in the drum shells creates a truly dynamic sound. Maple offers tonal versatility and warmness, while walnut provides fast attack and dark tones. This fusion results in drums that are perfect for any setting. Mapex’s unique bearing edge technology, SONIClear, improves shell vibration, resonance, and tuning. The bearing edge profile allows for a stronger and deeper fundamental pitch, enabling the drums to reach their full sonic potential.
Mapex’s SONIClear tom suspension system ensures optimal resonance and allows the toms to resonate freely. The low-mass holders preserve the vibrations from the heads and shells, allowing for a wide sonic range. The customised air flow system, Chamber Specific-Nodal Line Air Flow Venting, strategically positions vents in alignment with the drum lugs to prevent interference with the overall resonance of the bass drums and toms. This attention to detail enhances the drums’ performance.
The Sonic Pedestal feet, coupled with the TH800 SONIClear tom holders, further enhance the tonal resonance of the Saturn Series. These rubber feet prevent contact between the floor tom legs and the playing surface, maximizing resonance by eliminating vibration transfer. Every feature of the drum set has been meticulously tested to ensure top performance.
The configuration of the Mapex Saturn 22″ 4-piece Shell Pack includes a 22″ x 18″ bass drum, a 10″ x 8″ rack tom, a 12″ x 9″ rack tom, and a 16″ x 16″ floor tom. The shell material is maple/walnut with 6 plies, and the bearing edges are SONIClear. The drum set comes with SONIClear tom suspension, triple-flanged 2.3mm Power Hoops, Chamber Specific-Nodal Line air vents, SAS Static 90° floor tom legs, Sonic Pedestal floor tom feet, chrome hardware, and a Teal Blue Fade finish.
