About Marty Friedman Born in Washington D.C. in 1962 Marty Friedman is best known for the 10 years he spent as Megadeths lead guitarist between 1990 and 2000. During this decade his influence can be heard across five of the heavy metal bands most critically and commercially successful albums including Rust in Peace and Countdown to Extinction. Alongside Dave Mustaine David Ellefson and Nick Menza this line-up is often considered the quintessential Megadeth era – selling over 10 million albums worldwide. Improvisation features heavily in Friedmans playing style while he has often fused Eastern and Western music and other styles such as neoclassical thrash metal and progressive rock.
