The DAddario Helicore Pizzicato Bass Strings are excellent for players seeking a longer sustain on plucked notes. These are comprised of a stranded steel core with nickel winding providing the perfect level of strength and flexibility. Helicore strings are well-defined and responsive however you play.Popular amongst double bass players these are suitable for a range of genres and styles. You can always be assured of DAddarios superiority as their strings are manufactured in the USA under strict quality controls. With a range of Helicores available theres something for everyone!
Helicores for all occasions D’Addario produces three varieties of Helicores for double basses. The Orchestral Strings are responsive when used with a bow and optimised damping results in a warmer softer sound when strummed. Helicore Pizzicato Strings are better for jazz playing with increased sustain while plucked and a darker tone. Hybrids are the best of both worlds having both balanced damping and a longer pizzicato sustain. Varying tensions Helicores come in multiple tensions meaning you can ensure your strings are ideal for any instrument or genre. A lighter tension needs less pressure to play though as a result can’t reach the same volume as other strings. Heavy tensions would require more effort but can produce more power and projection overall. We would recommend medium tension strings if you are unsure of which to choose as these provide a suitable “in between”. Ideal construction Steel wires braided together make up the cable cores of these strings and add strength while preserving flexibility. All Helicores are nickel-wound and therefore resistant to corrosion meaning that you can use these strings for longer! The resulting sound is warm and clear. Durable they’re great for double basses as they can withstand the higher tension from the instrument. Sizing Usually the size of your double bass is the type of string that you would need however if you’re unsure of your instrument’s size then you can double check! D’Addario states the strings’ playing lengths which you can determine by measuring the length between your bass’ nut at the top of the fingerboard to where the strings meet the bridge. 3/4 size: 106.0cm (41.75″) 1/2 size: 97.5cm (38.38″) 1/4 size: 90.0cm (35.50″) 1/8 size: 80.5cm (31.75″) 1/16 size: 71.0cm (28.00″) Whats at gear4music?
