DAddario Helicore Fourths-Tuning Cello strings allow you to access the sound and versatility of Helicores while being able to tune your cello in fourths. You may want fourths-tuning if youre a bass player and want familiar fingering on your cello you might also simply want to explore different tunings on the cello. The tone across all Helicore strings is well-defined and responsive to whatever forms of articulation you employ in your playing. Helicores are hugely popular amongst many cellists across all genres and styles. All DAddario strings are manufactured in the USA to strict quality controls.
Different tensions The full-size Helicores in these packs are available in three tensions. The lighter tension strings will be easier to bow and pluck with less pressure required to stop the strings with the left had. This comes at the slight expense to maximum volume and power. The heavy tension strings require more effort to play but they will produce more volume and power when pushed. These are good for players who need an acoustic sound which can really project and push through the rest of the ensemble. Medium tension strings are a balance between the two and you should probably start with medium if youre unsure of what tension would be best. Materials to suit your playing The cores in all these strings are comprised of many steel wires braided together to produce a steel cable core. This provides the level of strength youd expect from steel with an added flexibility. The resultant sound is warm and clear. The smaller string diameter helps with a quick bow response furthering the versatility of these strings. The top two strings are wound with titanium. Titanium is a great material for the upper strings as the lighter alloy brightens the sound produced by the string. The lower two strings are wound with tungsten-silver (tungsten-nickel on smaller-size strings). Tungsten is a good material to add warmth to the strings and the silver exterior boosts this warmth. The nickel exterior on the smaller strings has a similar effect with an added benefit of having high corrosion resistance. Sizing You will most likely know the size of your cello so the size of string that matches your instrument will most likely suit your cello.
