The Boss RE-20 is a recreation of the legendary Roland RE-201 Space Echo using innovative COSM technology. It faithfully captures every sonic detail and nuance of the original. The spacious analog tone, tape flutters, and magnetic head saturation have all been faithfully modeled in the RE-20. It also features the same 12 modes as the original, which offer different combinations of echo and reverb. The only notable difference between the RE-20 and the RE-201, other than size, is the extended delay time tap pedal and stompbox format.
In addition to its exceptional sound capabilities, the RE-20 offers excellent connectivity options. It is equipped with an EXP input and stereo in/outputs, allowing seamless integration into any setup. The stereo in/outputs enable users to connect dual speakers or send the signal directly to a PA system for a variety of sound setups. The EXP input permits external control over the repeat rate, intensity, and echo level using an expression pedal. The expression pedal can also be set to twist mode, allowing simultaneous control of the repeat rate and intensity while adjusting the echo volume according to the set echo level.
The original Roland Space Echo RE-201 tape echo machine was introduced in 1974, transforming fragile and unreliable technology into a durable and roadworthy device. Although it is no longer in production, the RE Space Echo remains a world-renowned and highly acclaimed device, capturing the interest of modern musicians. Musicians fell in love with every aspect of the Roland tape echo, from its pleasing chorus effects created by subtle tape movement wavering to the characteristic compressed sound from tape magnetic saturation.
