Boss 30th Anniversary Limited Edition MT-2 Metal Zone Effects Pedal
The Boss 30th Anniversary Limited Edition MT-2 Metal Zone Effects Pedal celebrates the legacy of one of the most iconic high-gain pedals ever. Sporting a sleek all-black colour scheme, this pedal’s new darker look provides a unique aesthetic for this legendary circuit.

With a near-mythical reputation, the Metal Zone offers huge distorted tones with unrivalled sonic flexibility thanks to detailed EQ and tone-shaping options. It stakes a claim for being the most versatile distortion pedal on the market. The EQ shaping options are a step above most similar units, with a sweepable mid boost/cut that allows you to toggle between old school mid-scooped metal tones and much fatter, doomier mid-heavy sounds. This limited edition version is a tribute to the astonishing legacy of this iconic pedal.

The Boss MT-2 Metal Zone is one of the most complex dirt pedals in existence and has the most sophisticated circuit on any mass-market pedal. It is also one of the least understood. The pedal consists of an input buffer, a pre-distortion tone shaping circuit, a gain stage and clipping diodes, a post-distortion tone shaping circuit, high and low tone controls, and a sweepable mid tone control.

The pre-distortion tone shaping creates a notable “mid hump,” boosting the mid-range and shaping the sound of the distortion. The gain stage and clipping diodes create a two-stage clipping circuit, generating light crunch at minimum gain and heavily clipped output at higher gains. After the diodes, there is raw distortion with a high degree of gain and crunch.

The post-distortion tone shaping circuit is a more sophisticated version of the pre-distortion circuit and has two peaks in the frequency response. The sweepable mid control acts as a semi-parametric EQ, allowing for a cut or boost of 15dB and the ability to switch between scooped and mid-heavy tones.

The MT-2’s sound is heavily influenced by its frequency response at every stage, more so than the choice of components. The initial mid-hump, high-gain double clipping, and scooped-mid response give the pedal its signature tone. Combined with the powerful EQ, the pedal offers a high degree of tonal control.

The features of the MT-2 Metal Zone include an iconic high-gain distortion pedal, an innovative dual-stage gain circuit for thick and tight distortion sounds, a three-band active EQ with semi-parametric midrange for intense sound customization, and the ability to achieve massive satisfying sounds at any volume level.

Specifications for the MT-2 Metal Zone include controls for DIST knob, EQUALIZER MIDDLE/MID FREQ knob, EQUALIZER HIGH/LOW knob, and LEVEL knob, indicator for CHECK battery, and connectors for INPUT jack, OUTPUT jack, and DC IN jack. It can be powered by a carbon-zinc or alkaline battery or an AC adaptor.

The dimensions of the pedal are 73 (W) x 129 (D) x 59 (H) mm, and it weighs 385 g, including the battery.
