The Behringer X AIR XR12 is a 12 channel mixer designed for use with iPad and Android tablets. The XR12 comes with built-in WiFi, allowing for increased mobility. This means you can focus on your mix while moving around the venue to hear what every part of the audience is experiencing. Additionally, you can adjust live monitor wedges from the perspective of the artists themselves, or let them mix their own in-ear monitors and floor monitors using their own tablets.
When you need to set up a multiple-microphone setup, such as an onstage panel discussion or press conference, maintaining open mics and preserving maximum gain and priority can be challenging. The XR12’s X AIR Gain Sharing technology is designed to manage fully automated mixes with multiple live microphones. It controls the levels of all selected microphones in real time, without any gating artifacts or noise modulation, reducing feedback, studio noise, and comb filtering issues. This technology ensures a consistent system gain structure even when multiple speakers are talking simultaneously.
Equipped with the same FX engines as the X32, the XR12 features four true-stereo (or eight mono) multi-effects processors. This includes a variety of effects such as delay, chorus, and dynamics. It can also run production-quality true-stereo reverbs concurrently with a 31-band EQ on the main and aux buses, without the need for additional hardware. The XR12 offers high-end simulations of renowned studio effects like the Lexicon 480L and PCM70, as well as the EMT250 and Quantec QRS reverbs. With onboard processing, your computer doesn’t have to handle the heavy lifting during a mixing session with DAW plugins.
The XR12 includes a 100-band Real Time Analyzer (RTA) for all channels and bus EQs. This high-resolution RTA displays the audio energy distribution in 100 frequency bands over time. You can switch between the Large RTA view, displaying any available signal in full-screen resolution, or the Combined RTA view shown above each of the channel and bus EQ curves. This feature makes monitoring and controlling frequencies incredibly easy.
With the XR12, you can achieve the same level of EQ finesse as the award-winning X32. It features a 100-band Real Time Analyzer built into every input channel and bus EQ, allowing for visual feedback and quick adjustments to frequencies that need a boost or cut. Each input channel also includes a Low-Cut, 4-band fully parametric EQ, and the same Gate and Compressor dynamics suite found in the X32. You can choose between Expert or Simple functionality, depending on your preference for more in-depth control or plug-and-play convenience. The XR12’s 40-Bit floating-point DSP provides virtually unlimited dynamic range with no internal overload and near-zero latency.
In addition to the Main L/R bus for Front of House, the XR12 offers 6 Aux buses for creating the perfect monitor mixes or dedicated mix for USB stereo recording. These buses include inserts, dynamics, and either a 6-band parametric EQ or 31-band graphic EQ. 100-band RTAs are also available for these buses.
The XR12 mixer features a physical MIDI I/O port, which can be used for connecting external MIDI controllers like the X-TOUCH or B-CONTROL products. This allows for dynamic control over channel levels, muting, and panorama adjustments during live performances. The XR12 also supports the Mackie Control protocol, making it easy to apply comprehensive remote editing and parameter adjustments using compatible MIDI devices.
