Expander/gate: This section features a TRIGGER control. This allows you to set the threshold at which the signal reacts to either the expander or gate. By adjusting the release switch, you’ll be able to optimize the MDX4600 V2 to suit the needs of your specific material. Short times are ideal for when you’re working with percussive sounds. Longer times are great for sources that decay slower or heavily reverberated signals. That is unless you want to achieve that classic Phil Collins / Hugh Padgham 80s drum sound. The final control in this section is the GATE switch. This allows you to quickly switch between the expander and gate functions with ease.
Compressor: Although the MDX4600 V2 features the traditional threshold ratio and output controls that are traditionally associated with compressors, Behringer has added some additional features for a powerful performance. With switchable IKA (Interactive Knee Adaptation), the MDX4600 V2 provides you with adaptive compression that combines the advantages of both hard and soft-knee compression. On top of this, a LO CONTOUR function activates a high-pass filter to prevent pumping, whilst attack and release settings can be controlled automatically using the switchable AUTO function. You can also choose whether the LED meters read the input signal or the output signal using the IN/OUT METER switch.
De-esser: The MDX4600 V2 provides you with an integrated de-esser that is available when the compressor is active. It’s perfect for taming both harsh and brittle vocals and instrumentation, whether you’re on stage or in the studio.
Peak limiter: Designed to limit your signal to an adjustable level, the MDX4600 V2 provides you with a powerful LIMITER control. When set completely to the right-hand side, the limiter is switched off. Turning the control to the left will reduce the level at which the peak limiter will take effect. The circuitry boasts an extremely fast zero attack, allowing you to limit signal peaks without any overshoot. If your signal is limited for more than 20ms, the overall gain is reduced for about 1 second to avoid any strong and noticeable effects of limiting. A LIMIT LED will illuminate as soon as the limiter is active.
Side chain connectivity: The unit’s Side Chain connectivity allows you to insert your own graphic/parametric EQs to control specific frequencies. It also allows you to tighten up your tracks with an internal or external trigger signal for compression or gating.
