SSL Native X-Phase
The SSL Native X-Phase is an all-pass filter plug-in designed to apply frequency-specific phase shifting. Wherever multi-mic recordings are phase issues are certainly not far behind.

X-Phase allows you to target specific frequency ranges independently or linked in both left and right stereo channels to eliminate phasing issues between microphones or when blending close and far microphones of one sound source. Designed to maintain the integrity and quality of your audio unlike other filtering plug-ins X-Phase features linear gain across the entire frequency range regardless of any changes made to the phase.

With an onboard delay which features multiple units of measurement X-Phase gives you an even more precise level of control. Perfect for fixing problems in drum overhead microphones spaced pair piano recordings or other multi-mic setups X-Phase includes polarity switches for both channels along with A/B switching to audition two settings simultaneously.

Correct awkward phase issues The controls are simple a manual frequency grid much like that youll find on an EQ. Select the frequency and adjust the Q-factor control to set the slope of the curve and youll find you can fix any frequency-dependent phase issues from multi-microphone recordings in seconds. Regardless if you have a complex signal source such as a drum overhead which contains multiple drum sounds and cymbals X-Phase is accurate and transparent. Its the easiest way to add fatness back to your low-end or more midrange articulation without actually applying any FX.

Phase or polarity? Its no secret that engineering multi-microphone sessions can be tricky. Whether its a large choir single piano recorded in stereo drum overheads or any other source youll come across in the studio paying particular attention to phase is a must in the studio. When engineering these sessions with multiple mics its tricky to ensure that both microphones receive all frequencies from the sound source simultaneously. When this doesnt happen you will get phasing issues.

Some frequencies will arrive at the microphone at the same time and combine positively but others may arrive at different times resulting in cancellation. When listening in stereo your sound will be wide because of the difference between the two channels but when summed to mono it will sound distant and hollow. X-Phase provides you with the tools to analyse your signal to check against polarity and phase. An easy test is to flip the polarity of one channel and if the low-end is removed you are out of polarity but if the midrange shifts and the timbre changes you will be out of phase.

The onboard polarity switch can be linked for left and right channels or used individually to quickly analyse your audio to check for polarity issues.
