The seven-ply, 7.2mm thick maple shells of this kit allow for balanced tones with long sustain. The lower shell vibrations result in a sound with high overtones, while the seven-ply shells deliver enhanced projection. The medium thickness of the shells enables the versatility of these drums.
Mapex has modified the standard 45-degree bearing edge for this kit by shortening the inner edge and rounding the outer edge. This SONIClear bearing edge allows for flush contact with the head and more contact area, making tuning the drum easier and providing stable tuning. The bearing edge also enhances the shells’ resonance and tonal clarity.
The SONIClear tom suspension system from Mapex helps the tom stay in tune better by diverting tension away from the tension rods. This design also increases the vibrations within the shell, resulting in better tonal quality.
