A signature quinto – inspired by Carlos Patato Valdes. The LP Patato Signature Quinto is a 30 tall fibreglass quinto with a steel ring embedded at the bearing edge for added strength and stability. The body of the Signature Quinto is a mid-way point between the conga and tumba. The provides a more rounded tone capable of deep bass and slapping high tones. The LP Patato Quinto also includes 5/16 diameter tuning lugs and patented LP ProCare Shell Protectors. This helps to provide consistent and reliable tuning while ensuring maximum durability for the fibreglass shell.
Carlos Patato Valdes Carlos Valdes was a Cuban-born American conga player born in La Habana in 1926 who passed in 2007 after a long and successful career as a percussionist. He emigrated to New York City in 1954 where he continued his prolific career as a jazz and Latin musician – occasionally as a bandleader. Carlos Valdes invented and patented the tunable conga drum which revolutionised the use of the instrument in the USA.
