The Behringer HD300 Heavy Metal Distortion Effects Pedal is unique in that it doesn’t have a traditional clipping section. Instead, the distortion comes from a two-stage distortion circuit. Its heavy sound is achieved through ingenious design features, such as the capacitors at the input and output of the transistor stage not being polarized enough to function properly with the input/output AC signal. This adds distortion, along with the emitter follower at the output of the stage contributing its own slight asymmetrical bias due to the high level of the signal. Additionally, the use of both PNP and NPN transistors in this section generates crossover distortion, giving the HD300 its characteristic sound and distorted tones.
Features of the Behringer HD300 include a gain boost circuitry for super thick and heavy distortion, dedicated controls for gain boost, distortion tone, bottom, and level, a status LED for effect on/off and battery check, and the ability to operate on a 9-volt battery or the Behringer PSU-SB 9V DC power supply (sold separately). It also features an electronic on/off switch for the highest signal integrity in bypass mode.
