Mapex Black Panther Design Lab Equinox 14 x 5
The Mapex Black Panther Design Lab Equinox 14 x 5″ Snare Drum is a drum inspired by Mapex’s popular Black Panther drum series. It combines their expertise in creating high-quality snare drums with modern technology and innovative features. Made with a 6mm 6-ply maple wood shell, this snare drum offers a deep and powerful tone with excellent projection, making it perfect for any stage. The 2.7mm deep snare bed graduation provides a dry and articulate snare tone, which is further controlled and enhanced by the 4-ply maple resonance rings. These features ensure that the snare drum produces the perfect tone for a variety of musical styles.

One of the defining features of the Mapex Black Panther Design Lab Equinox snare drum is its 45-degree bearing edge. This cut, which is commonly used, features a sharp 1-ply thick edge that peaks close to the outside of the shell. The sharper bearing edge produces more attack and sustain, resulting in a lively and “modern” sound. This is because less of the drumhead film is in contact with the shell. Additionally, the sharp 45-degree edge produces more harmonic overtones, making the drum sound brighter. However, tuning can be more challenging due to the shell’s increased sensitivity to small changes in tension.
