The snare drum features a 45-degree bearing edge, which is a common cut that contributes to increased sustain. This sharp 1-ply thick edge peaks close to the outside of the shell, resulting in a lively and modern sound. The sharper bearing edge produces more attack and sustain by allowing less drumhead film to be in contact with the shell. Additionally, the sharp edge creates more harmonic overtones, giving the drum a brighter sound. However, tuning can be more challenging due to the increased sensitivity of the shell to tension changes.
