MXL 770X Multi-Pattern Vocal Condenser Microphone Kit

The MXL 770X Multi-Pattern Vocal Condenser Microphone Kit provides a polar pattern for every occasion. With this microphone in your locker no task will feel out of reach. From drums to vocals and guitars to pianos the MXL 770X is able to reproduce any voice or instrument with an incredible degree of accuracy. So much so that upon later playback youll easily be forgiven for forgetting youre not in the same room as the artist. Whether you desire “tight and focused” tones or an “open roomy” sound. The MXL 770X can do it all and then some. The inclusion of three polar patterns allows you to achieve real tonal variety. This can come in handy if you only have one microphone and are capturing multiple takes from the same performer. Simply alternate between the patterns as the session progresses to achieve contrasting sounds youll find this is particularly useful for minimising frequency build-ups and allowing each part to feel defined. Coming complete with a shock mount and integrated pop shield youll be guaranteed the finest recording possibilities with absolutely zero compromises. The rugged shock mount eradicates and low-frequency energy from ruining those all important takes whilst the pop shield automatically combats sibilance and plosives so you spend more time mixing and less time fixing!

Which polar pattern should I use? Boasting three polar patterns the 770X is a real work-horse; Cardioid is excellent for delivering a tight-focused sound whilst providing excellent off-axis rejection of around -6dB of unwanted noise and ambience. This is a great polar pattern to rely on when recording live performances either on-stage or in-the-studio. Figure-of-eight picks up sound from the front and the back of the capsule whilst rejecting all sound coming from the side. This pattern has been a go-to trick for many producers recording two background vocals. When paired with another figure-of-eight microphone and carefully positioned it can also work wonders on capturing vocals and guitar from a single performer simultaneously. However beware. Utilising this positioning enhances close proximity effect which can lead to an unnatural amount of low-end being reproduced by the microphone. Theres good reason why many radio broadcasters opt for this pattern! When you want to capture natural recordings it doesnt get much better than omni. Omnidirectional means that sound is picked up by the capsule within a 360 degree radius. Selecting this pattern allows you to get up-close on sources without the risk of proximity effect being introduced. This is a favoured pattern for many Grammy award winning engineers and producers when recording multiple string and brass players. It can also make the “Levee Break” when heavily compressed and used for drum room microphones! Whats included?
