The Octapad SPD-30 follows in the footsteps of Rolands original Octapad, which revolutionized electronic percussion. Despite its compact size, the Octapad offered drummers and percussionists the convenience and expression of an entire electronic rig in one self-contained unit. Now, decades later, a new chapter in Octapad history is unfolding with the Octapad SPD-30. It combines essential electronic percussion sounds with the latest triggering technology in a road-tough package that can handle even the most demanding performances.
In contrast to the original Octapad PAD-8, which served as a MIDI controller only, the Octapad SPD-30 comes with its own internal bank of sounds. It includes fifty kits with essential sounds spanning various musical styles. Players can customize the sounds using the onboard controls for tuning, muffling, attack, pitch, sweep, and more. This percussion pad is like having a collection of customizable drum and percussion instruments in a portable package.
The Octapad SPD-30 boasts Rolands world-leading effects technology, providing performers with a range of multi-effects to elevate their performances. It offers thirty types of internal multi-effects, as well as EQ, limiter, and seven Ambience types.
With the onboard Phrase Loop function, users can create layered loops and phrases in real time. The Octapad SPD-30 can record and store up to fifty phrases internally, with each containing up to three layers. Additionally, phrase data can be saved on a USB Memory.
The Octapad SPD-30 benefits from Rolands most advanced V-Drum triggering technology. Each pad is a separate, isolated unit, offering optimal sensitivity and complete crosstalk rejection. Furthermore, the Octapad SPD-30 can be connected to four dual-trigger inputs and a hi-hat controller (compatible with Roland FD-8 VH-11) to create a mini drum set with external pads (such as Roland KD / PD / PDX / CY series) or accept triggers from acoustic drums through Rolands RT series.
